Sensibilisation and aid in the fight against accusations of witchcraft
The belief in witchcraft is widespread in Burkina Faso. Once a woman is suspected of witchcraft she is
expelled from her village community. These woman hardly ever have a chance to return to their families or to be taken
in by other village communities. Completely detached from their social surroundings and without any contact to their
families, they find themselves at the marge of society. They are denied access to potable water and food. All attempts to
earn their living are made impossible for them. No exact data on how many women are vicimized of this kind of social
banishment every year exists so far. |
